A recent viral sensation you might have seen on your Facebook newsfeed or your local news channel has hit San Diego and Canter Companies was ready to take it on! The #IceBucketChallenge consists of the challengee posting a video of themselves dumping a bucket of ice water on their head after calling out others to do the same resulting in raising awareness (and donations) for ALS. The challenge has been most commonly associated with another hashtag, #StrikeOutALS. This is in reference to the 29 year old former Captain of the Boston College Eagles Baseball team, Pete Frates, who was recently diagnosed with the disease and has since started his own fund for it.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord (alsa.org). This cause is extremely close to our hearts here at Canter Companies so we jumped at the opportunity to spread awareness and show our support with this video, donations, and a couple of buckets of ice!
